IPC are coordinating prayer support across the prayer movement for the Japan 1 Million initiative that aims to mobilise 1 million hours of prayer for Japan during the 2021 Olympic Games.
Japan needs our prayers right now, and we believe that this is the nations Kairos moment.
Japan is an amazing, beautiful country full of culture and history. It has a strong economy and is among the most technologically advanced nations in the world. The people are renowned for their politeness and courtesy.
However, with less than one per cent of its population of 126 million attending church, the Japanese are the world’s second largest un-reached people group. Most people in Japan have not been to church, read the Bible or know any Christians.
The country is struggling with the societal and economic impacts of the Covid pandemic. Among the issues they are facing are youth suicide (over 30,000 a year), teenage prostitution, high divorce rates and a widespread ‘lack of hope or confidence in the future.’ Although many Japanese claim they follow no religion, many follow some rituals of Buddhism and Shintoism. Spiritual powers and principalities in Japan hinder the Gospel.
