Global Jihad - Something to Watch and Pray About

Brookings Institution Daniel Byman told LIGNET that Hamas is the biggest threat facing Israel and is now building up a small army. Daniel Byman, author of the 2007 book The Five Front War: The Better Way to Fight Global Jihad, told LIGNET this week that while the fight against Al Qaeda is going “reasonably well,” the bigger picture is “troubling,” with jihad spreading and more people in Arab countries blaming the United States for their troubles.

“You see the spread of Al Qaeda ideas,” he said, “you see individuals in countries that 10, 15 years ago were untouched by global jihad now embracing it, and you see powerful organizations emerging in different countries in the Arab World that have links to Al Qaeda that in the past did not.”
