April 2013

Current Prayer Requests for Afghanistan and Pakistan

We do not rejoice in the death of anyone, even Taliban leaders that have been involved in the murder of many civilians, police and military as well as government officials; however we need to pray that they will either repent or be stopped by force and leave the “how” in God’s wise and loving hands.

1. Continued prayer request: Pray the Taliban be caught and their networks be destroyed. Pray the leaders be captured if they don't want to repent. Pray their unity be broken and their supply lines be cut off. Pray there will be no Spring offensive as has been announced.

2. Continued prayer request: Pray more tribal areas where the Taliban came from would stand up against them and not allow these terrorists to go through and/or use their lands.

3. Continued prayer request: Pray for the president of Afghanistan to change and stop making offensive/damaging remarks that cause distrust among the ethnic groups and with NATO.

4. Continued prayer request: Pray the country stays together in unity.

5. Continued prayer request: Pray for the elections for Afghanistan's president (a year from now). It is time to pray for the right candidate to come forward!

6. Continued prayer request: Pray for a good relationship between the Afghan government and NATO forces.

7. Continued prayer request: Pray for the expats and local believers to be given courage and strength to stand and pray as they are key to pray inside the country.

8. Pray for the teams that are in-country for His protection and that God will give clear direction how to pray. The Lord has revealed certain roots that need to be uprooted (the way Islam came into the country, demonic powers that are worshiped, etc.). Jer. 1:10 "See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant." Pray that the Lord will expose the roots and use our prayers to pull them up.

9. Please pray for the expats and local believers in the country that they will not come under fear but share the Good News with others. May the Lord grant them dreams and visions of Jesus, especially to people with influence, leaders and even Taliban!

10. All the like-minded organisations in these countries need more workers. Pray that He might sent the right people into the harvest Mat 9,36-38

11. Continued prayer request:  In the authority of the Lord, bind and nullify with us aggressively the evil covenants of  Afghan  and Pakistani  political leaders  and  Taliban / Al Qaida / Haqqani / Gulbadin  terrorists  with  demonic powers / rulers  through  blood  sacrifices,  witchcraft  &  rituals.   Bind and break the covenant of  death  and  destruction! (See Matt.12, 28 - 29; 2 Cor.10, 3-5).

12. These are provincial areas from which the Taliban need to be uprooted and driven out. Pray that Afghan forces, supported by local villagers and NATO will be effective in defeating and dislodging them:

Laghman - a Taliban stronghold close to Kabul, the capital. The provincial capital, Mehtar Lam, is especially insecure. Was handed over by NATO to Afghan forces in 2010

Nangarhar - many of its districts are often attacked by insurgents - Chaprihar district lies 15km from the capital Jalalabad but is a no-go area for government employee

Zabul - this strategically important province, providing access to Ghazni, Uruzgan and Kandahar, now has virtually no NATO presence. The Taliban have filled the vacuum

Ghazni - like Zabul has almost no NATO presence, allowing the Taliban and al-Qaeda to assume control

Helmand - Kabul's writ has never run strong in the remote southern plains

Kandahar - spiritual home of the Taliban, who retain a presence in rural areas

Kunar-a Taliban stronghold in the East bordering with Pakistan and a not under the control of the Afgh government. From there the Taliban control Nuristan. Gov and NATO had many casualties there and much fighting going on.

Actually there is still a lot of fighting going on in the country and nearly daily of Afghan policemen and soldiers are being killed. The Taliban are still inflicting heavy casualties to the Afghan forces in some areas. Pray that the Afghan and NATO forces will prevail and root out and defeat the Taliban wherever they are.

Blasphemy law Strikes: 175 Christian homes burnt by militants

www.persecutioninpakitan.com

Almost 175 houses were burnt in a mob attack on a Christian community at the Badami Bagh area in Lahore on March 9. One Christian youth has been falsely accused and out in jail under the Blasphemy law. The militant mob comprising of almost 10 to 12 thousand attacked the Joseph colony The attack was led by Muslim Ahmed against the Christians.

Almost 150 Christian families were forced to flee the area.  Another militant cleric Saifullah said that they must cut the Christians into pieces.

Fox News on April 8:

“At least 30 Pakistani soldiers and nearly 100 militants have been killed in fierce fighting in a remote, northwest valley over the past four days following a ground offensive launched by the army, military officials said Monday…The Taliban have remained a serious threat and continue to launch attacks throughout the northwest and other parts of the country with frightening regularity. There is concern that the militants could step up the pace of attacks even more in coming weeks in an attempt to derail parliamentary elections scheduled for May 11.”

1) Pray for the Pakistani army to have good success in rooting out the Taliban and defeating them in this area and across the country and that the Taliban will not be able to disrupt the national parliamentary elections in this first democratic transition of government.

2) Pray for a fair, uncorrupted election campaign and for honest, good leaders to be put into power and that the wicked will be brought down or kept from getting into power.

3) Pray for a team of prayer leaders who are there during the coming week that they will be given great unity with the locals, strong faith, deep discernment and confident authority in Christ to deal with the spiritual darkness and strongholds of this important nation.

Afghanistan-Pakistan Special 2013 Prayer Focus Update

The Taliban and their allies on both sides are still on the offensive and continue to spread death and violence. The reports are talking about continued strong Taliban activities and an increase of violence…these powerful spiritual forces will not just easily give up. In Afghanistan and Pakistan, much more is at stake, and it will take a strong commitment of many intercessors. Please continue to partner is prayer for this special project and share these requests with others.

1.     Please pray that more intercessors from around the world will join us to seriously intercede for Afghanistan and Pakistan at this crucial stage.

2.     We still see many terrifying attacks of Taliban against their governments, the Army/police, and many innocent people. Continue to pray that this movement and their allies would be completely thrown into confusion and be crushed. We continue to proclaim the end of this satanic movement.

3.     That their leaders would either surrender, give up and stop fighting or that they would be taken out before they spread even more violence and bloodshed. Especially let this happen for their key people like Mullah Omar, Gulbadin Hekmatyar, the Haqqanis and other high-ranking leaders. Pray that the demonic protection these leaders have would be removed and that would be caught soon.  That the demonic unity between the Taliban and their allies be broken and that they would turn again each other.

4.     That the fear of God to fall on them and as many as possible of their key leaders would be converted to Christ.

5.     Pashtun tribal leaders throughout the areas where the Taliban operate would be so fed-up with the Taliban and their allies that they would not allow them to use their territory any more and start opposing them. It happened already in some areas and it should spread out throughout the Pashtun areas.

6.     Pray for President Karzai who seems to make compromises with the Taliban and tries to appease them. He is losing the trust of other important ethnic groups, which can lead again to dangerous frictions. During the meeting in Washington the President Karzai demanded from the US government to pull out their troops from villages (where usually the Taliban are) and stop the night raids (where most of the Taliban leaders were caught). This will weaken the NATO Troops in their fight against the Taliban.  Also the US gov had to hand over all the Taliban prisoners to the Afghan government. A number of times he released key Taliban leaders. The US gov had to give in to all these demands. Pray that the Afghan president would stop these actions that will brings increasingly distrust from his own people and the western governments that support Afghanistan.

7.     Elections are to be held in Pakistan in the Spring.  A party very sympathetic to the Taliban and one that promises to bring in Sharia law is popular and predicted to win.  Pray for a moderate party to win and one that will rule with justice.  PRAY for the right leader to be elected. PRAY that a fanatical, religious government will not take over.

8.     Pray for the small population of Christians not to be afraid but to be emboldened by the Holy Spirit to stand up in faith and to strongly pray for their own countries. Especially in Pakistan is a larger percentage of Christians that should be mobilized to pray for their own country. PRAY for the Holy Spirit to stir Christians to pray like never before.  PRAY for teams to be able to get visas to Pakistan to join with Christians there.  PRAY for protection for Christians (foreign and national).

9.       Pray the people in Pakistan will boldly speak out against the Taliban and that the military will also be bold in fighting against the enemy.

10.  Pray for confusion in the Taliban’s attempt to establish a headquarters in Qatar or any other place.

Provided by “David” and “Michael”, two veteran ministry leaders who have devoted their lives and ministries to these nations. May the Lord bless, encourage and protect them and their families!

Liberating Afghanistan and Pakistan from the Taliban: An Urgent Call to Prayer for 2013

We need your help in this special prayer focus for 2013. Would you please join us in prayer and circulate this call to prayer to other intercessors you know? We will monitor how things go within these two countries as the year goes by and update you on how the Lord answers.

The Taliban are a group of radical Islamists that are threatening the survival of both Afghanistan and Pakistan and the security of the rest of our world. If they succeed along with allied terrorist groups in taking over these two nations, they will proclaim that militant Islam has triumphed and will be emboldened to launch attacks against the rest of the world from this base. As Pakistan has nuclear weapons, they could fall into the hands of these radical Islamists and be used against Israel, the West and other nations. It is of paramount importance that we as intercessors engage in united prayer for His protection and deliverance of these two nations.

Driven by their fanatical ideology and possessed by a spirit of violence and death, the Taliban have been wreaking havoc in both Afghanistan and Pakistan over the last decade. At 9/11, the rest of the world saw the destructive capacity of Al Qaeda, supported by the Taliban, to thrust their dagger even into the heart of the western world. The Taliban are primarily made up of the Pashtun ethnic group (called Pathans in the attached people group profile) that span the border of both nations and have been called “the most resistant unreached people in the world”. Captive to their warlike culture and code of honor that requires blood revenge, they are constantly fighting and killing one another and those from other ethnic groups. Since 2007, they also have murdered 16 Christian workers in Afghanistan. In Pakistan, they have wiped out possibly hundreds of Christian believers, also destroying their villages, churches, and homes.

Not all Pashtun are Taliban or serve as instruments of violence, but we suspect that this people group in general has become traumatized by centuries of fighting off invading armies. As a result, the Pashtun have become both the recipients and purveyors of terrible atrocities of war and human suffering. We believe this could be the way that Satan has gotten a grip upon their psyche and culture as a people and is now using them in the form of the Taliban and other allied terrorist groups to carry out his agenda to “kill, steal and destroy”. Jesus identified the devil as the “liar and murderer from the beginning”. It is he that we must come against in faith-filled prayer to see the Taliban dissolve and these two nations set free from their destructive influence.

After the fall of the Taliban Regime in 2001, they slowly regrouped and have since then continuously gained power. Many military leaders have now conceded that they cannot win this war militarily. Fighting with physical weapons as the Coalition forces have done in Afghanistan the last 11 years cannot be ultimately successful against spiritual forces of evil. We have seen that mobilization of prayer leaders and intercessors as well as praying children can be effective in putting the principalities and powers to flight in nations. Here are a few examples:

·       In Cambodia, The Khmer Rouge, worshippers of a serpent demon, began to give up their maniacal, murderous struggle and surrendered to the government two months after a mass prayer mobilization was launched in 1994-1995.

·       In Burma, thousands of children have been praying for their nation since last year, and there are now sweeping political changes going on.

·       Many other cases from Bosnia, Sri Lanka and nations of Africa could be mentioned where God has used national prayer initiatives to end wars, create governments of national unity and bring about peaceful development. Some African nations now even have born-again presidents who are involved in nationwide prayer efforts!

Afghanistan

In Afghanistan, since the mid 1990s, prayer teams started to go into the country, and in the beginning of 2001 the Lord impressed on the hearts of local Christian workers to prophetically proclaim an end to Taliban control. As thousands around the world prayed, this came to pass by the end of that year. Hundreds of Christian workers came in to help the nation in humanitarian and development efforts. Things improved dramatically. However, the ground was not held through ongoing intercession and the Taliban have come back, threatening to take over again. Many organizations and their workers have left the country due to threats, attacks or being closed down. During the last two years, twelve more Christian workers have been killed by the Taliban.

Large areas of the country have come again under the control of the Taliban, and all four access roads into Kabul, the capital, are now threatened with insecurity. Many locals are nervous and want to leave the country because the Coalition forces have announced they plan to withdraw in 2014. In addition, President Karzai will be leaving power since new elections will be held during that same year. Afghans know their government will probably not hold together and is likely to be overthrown by the Taliban with terrible violence for the nation as the result.

Pakistan

In Pakistan, the Taliban are Islamic fundamentalists who are forcing their beliefs upon society at any cost. In recent years, as the government has sought to ban and stop the Taliban, they have risen up with new names and expanded across the country imposing their beliefs. Physically, they are now almost an unstoppable force in the hands of the devil.

Pakistan is being rocked by suicide bombings and assassinations and is ruled by a corrupt and inept government that is unable to maintain order or lead the nation out of the political, economic and religious quagmire into which it has descended. The national elections that may happen early in 2013 are not likely to help as they will most likely be accompanied by riots and other destabilizing acts of violence and conflict. If a certain political party comes to power, that will  strengthen the Taliban even more.

People live in a constant state of fear, wondering if they will return in safety to their homes or if their area will be the next place of attack. For their own safety, they try to travel a different road each time. Those who can afford it always travel with armed guards. Most public places are surrounded by guards; even churches have guards for safety. A significant exodus of educated and wealthy people is occurring. Those without the means to leave are being left with a feeling of despair as they feel that those who can help them are now leaving the country to the Taliban and the fundamentalists.

The pirs, Islamic spirit mediums, have a huge influence over political leaders and also have empowered the Taliban for their terrorist actions in both Afghanistan and Pakistan. Government education has almost completely failed and left a vacuum. In its place, pirs and their fundamentalist schools or madrassahs are raising up a generation of fanatics who are willing to lay down their lives for the beliefs of the Taliban. For example, thousands of suicide bombers are being trained to carry out their demonic activities locally as well has throughout the world.

Since the first missionaries came to Pakistan to reach the Pashtuns, dozens of them have been killed by them. The latest victim was a Swedish missionary lady who had served for many years there. She was shot and died in December 2012. Numerous Pakistani Christians have also been killed for their faith over the years. The Taliban have also targeted and attacked more liberal people who are concerned for human and minority rights within the country.

A spirit of death and violence stalks Pakistan as well as Afghanistan and manifests itself most strongly through the Taliban. The best military powers in the world with all their sophisticated weapons have not been able to stop this demonic force. The battle must first be won in the heavens. If Afghanistan and Pakistan collapse, they will surely become launching pads for awful destruction to be carried to the rest of our world. We, therefore, propose the following strategy for mobilizing prayer for the deliverance of these two embattled, broken nations:

1.     Declare a year of prayer for the Taliban (Pashtuns) in Afghanistan and Pakistan throughout 2013 and inviting prayer networks and intercessors across the world to partner with us for this project, including especially praying children.

2.     Send out monthly one-page prayer alerts with in-depth, strategic information to guide united intercession and enable the prayer of agreement for specific desired changes.

3.     Encourage teams of veteran prayer leaders to go into both countries during 2013 to pray on-site and encourage the local believers and prayer groups.

4.     To initiate monthly or bi-monthly Skype calls for updating prayer network leaders and praying in agreement for the liberation of both nations and the dissolution of the Taliban.

Here are some first prayer concerns we want to share with you for the coming month:

1.     Ask that the Lord would raise up many intercessors from around the world who will join us in serious and dedicated prayer till we see a change in Afghanistan and Pakistan, an army of intercessors that will join wholeheartedly in this spiritual battle.

2.     That the Taliban movement in both countries would be completely thrown into confusion, disunity and crushed. They are trying to set up political headquarters in either Dubai or Saudi Arabia.  May this not happen. We continue to proclaim “Taliban Time/Rule is over”. Satan’s power over the Taliban will be broken.

3.     That their leaders would either surrender, give up and stop fighting or that they would be taken out before they spread even more violence and bloodshed. Especially let this happen for their key people like Mullah Omar, Gulbadin Hekmatyar, the Haqqanis and other high-ranking leaders.

4.     That the demonic unity between the Taliban and their allies be broken and that they would turn against each other.

5.     That the fear of God to fall on them and as many as possible of their key leaders would be converted to Christ.

6.     Pashtun tribal leaders throughout the areas where the Taliban operate would be so fed-up with the Taliban and their allies that they would not allow them to use their territory any more and start opposing them. It happened already in some areas, and it should spread out throughout the Pashtun areas.

7.     Talks are going on in this coming week between the US president and the Afghan president about how many troops should remain. Pray that a strong force would be allowed to stay as long as necessary and that the Afghan army would be strengthened enough to protect the nation and overcome Taliban threats.

8.     Elections are to be held in Pakistan in the Spring. A party very sympathetic to the Taliban and one that promises to bring in Sharia law is popular and predicted to win. Pray for a moderate party to win and one that will rule with justice.

For protection of the Christians that are a tiny proportion of the population in both countries. They are facing increasing persecution. May they be encouraged and strengthened and come together in unity to pray for their troubled nations.

December 2012

Declaring 2013 a Year of Prayer for the Pashtuns, Afghanistan and Pakistan

Will you join us in a year of prayer for one of the most strategic and needy people groups on our planet? The Pushtun people, who span the border of both nations, are the ethnic group that has been called “the most resistant unreached people in the world”. They are also the force behind the Taliban and the group that are causing the majority of death and destruction in both countries. We believe they are being deeply influenced by a spirit of death and violence. They are constantly fighting and killing others, themselves, other ethnic groups. Since 2007, they also have murdered 12 Christian workers in Afghanistan and hundreds of other believers in Pakistan, destroying whole villages, churches, and homes.

We suspect that they have become traumatized by centuries of fighting off invading armies and as a result being both the recipients and purveyors of terrible atrocities of war and human suffering. We believe this could be the way that the evil one has gotten a grip upon their psyche and culture as a people and is using them to carry out his agenda to “kill, steal and destroy” as the “liar and murderer from the beginning”.

After the fall of the Taliban Regime in 2001, they slowly regrouped again and have since then continuously gained power. The national elections that may happen early in 2013 are not likely to help as they will most likely be accompanied by riots and other destabilizing acts of violence and conflict.

Today, most public places are surrounded by guards; churches have guards for safety.  Many Pakistanis who can are leaving the country, the wealthy and educated. Those who cannot leave are beginning to have a feeling of hopelessness that those of influence who can save us are leaving the country to the Taliban and fundamentalists.

The pirs, Islamic spirit mediums, have a huge influence over political leaders and also have empowered the Taliban for their terrorist actions in both Afghanistan and Pakistan. For example, many suicide bombers have been set aside for Muharram, one of the four “sacred” months of the year which is going on right now.

Since the first missionaries came to Pakistan to reach the Pashtuns dozens of them have been killed by them. Numerous Pakistani Christians have also been killed for their faith over the years. The Taliban have also targeted and attacked more liberal people who are concerned for human and minority rights within the country.

The spirit of death and violence seems to stalk Pakistan as well as Afghanistan and manifests itself most strongly through the Pashtuns. We, therefore, propose the following strategy for mobilizing prayer for the dominant Pashtun people and these two embattled, broken nations that if they collapse could become launching pads for awful destruction on the rest of our world:

1)     Declaring a year of prayer for the Pashtuns, Afghanistan and Pakistan throughout 2013 and inviting prayer networks and intercessors across the world to partner with us for this project.

2)     Sending out monthly one- to two-page prayer alerts with in-depth, strategic information to guide united intercession and enable the prayer of agreement for specific desired changes. Please adopt the Pashtuns as your “people of the year” with others you know and together we will watch what the Lord does among them through our prayers of agreement and faith.

Let’s first be praying that the spirit of violence and death that seems to be gripping many of the Pashtuns will be bound and driven from them and that the Taliban will dissolve as a destructive and destabilizing force within these two countries.

November 2012

Crucial Situation in Afghanistan and Paksitan to Cover in Prayer

We are running this again because of its importance. Please keep praying for these two nations and the ongoing war.

North Waziristan in Pakistan has become a haven for militants. Tribal and local intelligence sources say some 15,000 militants shelter in this semiautonomous tribal belt. A number of Taliban leaders and others have been killed in drone strikes; however they have a refuge along the border inside Pakistan and from there they continue to mount attacks on Afghan and Coalition forces inside Afghanistan, keeping that nation in perpetual war and instability. It is essential that we pray that, before the foreign forces are withdrawn in 2014, the Taliban will dissolve and be defeated and that the Pakistani government will aggressively combat them, not allowing them any more safe-haven in their country.

A friend who with a great burden to pray for these two countries, wrote: “In one of our prayer meetings the Lord reminded us that he told us clearly in 2001 that we must proclaim "Taliban-time is over" and we faithfully did it and there was a powerful anointing on us when we did this…The message was: "spring time is coming"…And the Taliban regime began to crumble. In 2002, so many Christians came into the country and it looked like the Taliban movement was over but it was not destroyed. It regrouped and came back again and now it has become such a powerful force that even NATO admitted that they can't win this war. ... We feel that we must proclaim again what the Lord told us at that time and also the other scriptures that the Lord gave us like Ps 37.

Also the word was given to us clearly about King Joash coming to Elisha and he told the king to strike the ground and he did it only 3 times and stopped. Then the man of God became angry with him. You know the story, he should have struck five or six times 2 King 13.18 ff. We did the same, proclaimed for a while and then we stopped. This word came clearly to us and we repented, also on behalf of others that have  just turned away from the land and thought "it was done". Let's proclaim again and strike the ground again. It is not too late even though in the natural things look like a big disaster coming...The key is also to pray against the demon powers that rule over and through the Pashtuns. About 20 Christian workers were lost in the last 6 - 7 years, and all were killed by Pashtuns.

Many times the Lord spoke to us to pray against the demonic alliances between the Pakistan government/army and certain Taliban groups, Haqqaanis, Gulbadin and Al Qaeda. These groups work together and build a strong unity against the government of Afghanistan... This needs to be broken.

Let's pray also that their power would be broken. That the people themselves would stand up against the Taliban and say: enough!! This happened in a few areas and may it become a movement. Pray that many Pashtun tribal lealders would stand up and turn against the Taliban. God can do it. As quick as this movement came the Lord can cause it to die out. We must specially pray for that...

More workers are needed. Many workers have left and organisations pulled out. We need strong people that know how to stand against such pressures and know how to pray. Also that many of the Pashtun would come to the Lord and they would see signs and miracles and many visions and dreams.

Pakistan and Afghanistan

Christians are being beaten and threatened in several places in Pakistan. The majority is making false blames of blasphemy against them, and they are being put in jail. One boy has been murdered in Essanagri and today I am going to share the message in his memorial service where thousands will attend this meeting.

One of the Christian Scholars who is the 2nd person after me doing nearly the same work as I am doing has been threatened and fanatics made firings at his house. In Lahore openly Christians are being threatened and being asked to embrace Islam. The situation is very critical and it is dangerous for me too because I am the one who came out of them and then preaching to them. So I need your prayer support as well. Thanks for already being on your knees. It seems that Pakistan will be broken into pieces soon. Too much violence is here. So we need encouragement in this tough time. God bless you and use you for the betterment of Christians here in Pakistan.

Brother David

"We went through the fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance"
(Psalm 66:12)

Please uphold our brothers and sisters in Christ in Pakistan who are enduring a very difficult and dangerous time in their nation’s history. Agree in prayer for the binding of spiritual forces of darkness and death that want to destroy this nation and for the overthrow of fanatical groups that are being used by these forces. Pray for the government to take a strong stand to protect the minorities, including especially Christ’s people.

Key Players in Pakistan's Tribal Belt: Update

Keep praying against lawlessness and for real peace and security in Pakistan.

The situation in Pakistan is getting worse almost on a daily basis. Al Qaeda and the Taliban are carrying out more and more activities, with a weapon of fear, in an effort to bring down the country. Fanatics are also using this weapon of fear and using every way possible to force people to their way of thinking. The blasphemy law (misuse of the Koran with its death sentence) is being falsely used against Muslims and Christians. Most recently against a young Christian girl in the capital city (Rimsha Masih). It was an effort by the fanatics to see how far they can go.

Pakistan elections are formally to take place next February. The government that will most likely be next is promising Muslim law. Unrest is everywhere. A change of government usually takes place through discord and fightings in an effort to close down the government and businesses. Parties who are trying to seek leadership often do so by bringing discord and nasty demonstrations.

PRAY now for these elections,  for the spirit of fear to be broken:  Government, fanatics, Taliban, Al Qaeda.  The world is afraid of one Iranian nuclear bomb being made. Pakistan has hundreds of these bombs.  May they not fall into the wrong hands.

Afghanistan: Taliban Execute Woman to Send Afghans a Grim Warning

Many Afghans are very afraid that the Taliban will come back again and where they control areas inside Afghanistan. Pray that this would never happen again. This is an example how brutal they are:

Taliban execute a woman to send Afghans a grim warning of life without the West.

Video of the brutal killing is released on the same day as donors promise 10 billion pounds of aid after troop withdrawal in 2014. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/taliban-execute-woman-to-send-afghans-a-grim-warning-of-life-without-the-west-7923566.htm

An Afghan woman accused of adultery was executed by a purported member of the Taliban as a crowd of about 150 men looked on and cheered in a killing captured in video footage that surfaced at the weekend.

The slaying occurred just an hour’s drive from Kabul and is a grim reminder of the hard-line group’s brutality, under whose rule from 1996 to 2001 women suffered severe privations, including being banned from attending school. It also highlights the expanding presence the Taliban has throughout the country beyond their traditional strongholds in the south and east.

As international troops start to leave in advance of total withdrawal in 2014, concerns are mounting about whether the fledgling Afghan National Security Forces will keep insurgents at bay.

The video, obtained by Reuters, shows a woman in a shawl kneeling in the dirt. A turban-clad man approaches and fires on her at close range with an automatic rifle. Another man is heard saying, “Allah warns us not to get close to adultery because it’s the wrong way. It is the order of Allah that she be executed.”

The woman involved – either by consent or force – with two Taliban commanders was killed in order to settle a dispute between them, according to Parwan’s Provincial Governor Basir Salangi. According to Agence France Presse, the woman was a 22-year-old called Naliba. The fate of the Taliban commanders is not known.

“When I saw this video, I closed my eyes,” Mr. Salangi told Reuters. “The woman was not guilty; the Taliban are guilty.” The footage is thought to have been shot about a week ago. Mr. Salangi added that the Taliban have considerable influence in his province…

“Afghan women and girls were looking to the international community to protect the progress they have made in the last decade, and they have been let down. Some important steps have been taken, notably in a renewed commitment to their constitutional rights and better implementation of laws. But this is still not enough to entrench the fragile gains that have been made so far. There are not enough concrete steps or firm affirmations of how women will play a better role in the transformation phase of their country”.

Please pray for the safeguarding of women and children’s rights and the gains that have been made since the Taliban were overthrown. Pray that they will not be successful in regaining control over the nation to reestablish their tyrannical and oppressive rule.

Pakistan and Afghanistan Terrorist Leaders

From Christian Science Monitor

5 Key Players in Pakistan’s Tribal Belt

Pakistani military operations in the tribal regions bordering Afghanistan have steered clear of North Waziristan, allowing the area to become a haven for militants. Tribal and local intelligence sources say some 15,000 militants shelter in this semiautonomous tribal belt.

PRAY for these 5 persons to be brought to justice and for the dissolving of their networks and operations:

1.     Sirajuddin Haqqani

He is head of the Haqqani network and believed to be the main bridge between Al Qaeda, Afghan Taliban, and militant outfits in North Waziristan. Known among jihadis as “Khalifa” and the “soul of Jihad,” Mr. Haqqani has ties to Al Qaeda's Ayman al Zawahiri.

He is the son of commander Jalaluddin Haqqani, a former Taliban minister for tribal affairs. Siraj’s four brothers – Nasiruddin, Badruddin, Khalil, and Ibrahim – are the group's military shura (council). Nasiruddin is believed to have conducted fundraising in Saudi Arab and other Gulf states between 2006 and 2009. Badruddin handles politics, settling disputes between militant outfits. Siraj's youngest brother, Mohammed, was killed in February this year by a US drone strike. The Haqqani network mainly operates along the border with Afghanistan's Khost province.

2.     Hafiz Gul Bahadur

Mr. Bahadur is believed to be based between Miramshah and the Afghan border. He hit the headlines when his militia fought against Pakistan’s security forces in 2006-08 and again when he struck peace deals in 2009.

It is reported that each of the nine members of his Shura, or council, commands up to 1,000 local tribesmen, apportioning control of various areas across North Waziristan. Bahadur is honored as a descendant of legendary tribal warrior Fakir of Ippi, who fought against the British rule in the subcontinent. This lineage affords the cleric immense influence, both religiously and politically.

He severed formal ties with the Pakistani Taliban (TTP), but still reportedly provides shelter to its militants.

3.     Moulvi Noor Saeed Wazir

Another 3,000 TTP militants operate under the leadership of this local commander known for his ruthlessness. His stronghold is his home region, the Razmak Valley, which links North and South Waziristan. He is reported to be illiterate, and until a few years ago ran a grocery shop.

4.     Qari Hussain

Widely considered the deadliest of all commanders, Mr. Hussain is reported to be second in the TTP’s hierarchy, after his cousin Hakim Ullah Mehsud. His expertise lies in producing teenage suicide bombers. He is believed to have trained the Jordanian militant Humam Khalil Muhammad Abu Mulal al Balawi, who blew himself up in Khost, killing seven CIA personnel last December.

5.     Ilyas Kashmiri

The notorious Kashmiri leads a militia of around 3,000 men. He is operations chief of Harakat-ul Jihad Islami, a group the US government classifies as a terror organization with ties to Al Qaeda, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and the Punjabi Taliban. He is accused of being behind the 2009 suicide attack on Pakistan’s spy agency in Peshawar. He's also accused of carrying out attacks against senior military officials and cross-border attacks against US forces.

Afghanistan and Pakistan: Continued Violence and Pakistani Link to the Taliban

“Suicide attacks by the Taliban against government targets over the last two days demonstrate the near futility of trying to negotiate with the group. Despite talks between the US and the Taliban over the last year and indications that the Obama administration is considering releasing Taliban prisoners from the Guantanamo Bay facility as part of a peace settlement, the Taliban thus far has shown no indications of agreeing to a cease-fire.” January 12, Newsmax.com

In addition, a BBC News report from January 6 states that the Taliban in Afghanistan are being “directly assisted by Pakistani security services, according to a secret Nato report.” This report, the result of thousands of interrogations, claims the Taliban “remain defiant and have wide support among the Afghan people.” The report also alleges that Pakistan knows the locations of senior Taliban leaders and has not divulged that information. After 10 years of war and the loss of thousands of lives and billions of dollars, this is very discouraging reading for Nato and the Afghan government.

A Pakistani foreign ministry spokesman denied these allegations calling them "ridiculous" and saying "we are committed to non-interference in Afghanistan and expect all other states to strictly adhere to this principle."

US Pentagon spokesman Captain John Kirby commented: "We have long been concerned about ties between elements of the ISI [Pakistan's intelligence service] and some extremist networks," said US Pentagon spokesman Captain John Kirby, adding that the US Defense Department had not yet seen the report.

Please pray for the peace and healing of both Pakistan and Afghanistan and for the cutting off of ties between Pakistan’s intelligence services and government with the Taliban. This is such a strategic part of the world and we need to keep covering it in our prayers of intercession with faith for breakthrough.

Afghanistan and Pakistan

Please continue to pray for these two very strategic and needy lands that are so vital for the security of the rest of the world. There are some key prayer efforts going on within Pakistan this month with teams from outside joining in. Pray for their protection, discernment and empowering and that the local prayer movements in both countries will be strengthened and grow widely.

Pray for the unity and vitality of local believers in both countries as well as for the expatriate community, especially in Afghanistan. It is not always a safe place to serve and they need His protection and encouragement.

Pray for the governments of both nations to turn from corruption and serve the people with honesty and integrity of purpose. The tribal elders (community leaders) of each locality need to shut out violent men from their midst and welcome development efforts.

Pray for the Taliban and Al Qaeda groups to splinter and dissolve and for their members to have encounters with Jesus Christ and His truth through dreams, visions and the bold sharing of the Gospel by locals.

Pray for the success of the coalition military forces in protecting and restoring Afghanistan’s peace and development as a nation.

Prayer Request for Afghanistan

We have received this urgent prayer concern:

“Please pray for Joshua. He is in his late 20’s, married for 4 months, and has now been in prison in Kabul for three weeks. He is charged with not paying a sub-contractor, false accusations as far as I know. He and his wife are from the US. She is a teacher here. Very tough situation for both of them.”

Let’s pray that he will be exonerated and released as soon as possible.

Thank you for your prayers.

Pray for the Dissolution of the Haqqani Network in Afghanistan and Pakistan

A friend in Afghanistan asks us to pray:

“This is another article on the Haqqani group. It is interesting that Admiral Mike Mullen, the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, said recently before the US Senate Armed Services Committee that Pakistan military’s spy agency, ISI, was closely tied to the Haqqani network, the most violent and effective faction allied with the Taliban in Afghanistan and that they have very credible evidence about this. This is probable while they are so effective and absolutely dangerous. “

Much prayer is needed that the Gov. of Pakistan would stop that and that this Haqqani network would be stopped or destroyed.

Also, the continued serious deterioration of the relationship between Pakistan and the US is of great concern and effects Afghanistan, also.

Afghanistan—Draw-down of Coalition Forces

Nathan Hughes, writing for the STRATFOR online journal, described the huge logistical challenges for the U.S. and other coalition partners in the landlocked nation of Afghanistan where “hundreds of shipping containers and fuel trucks must enter the country every day from Pakistan and from the north to sustain the nearly 150,000 U.S. and allied forces stationed in Afghanistan, about half the total number of Afghan security forces. Supplying a single gallon of gasoline in Afghanistan reportedly costs the U.S. military an average of $400, while sustaining a single U.S. soldier runs around $1 million a year (by contrast, sustaining an Afghan soldier costs about $12,000 a year).” No wonder that the U.S. President Barack Obama announced June 22 that the process of reducing military forces in Afghanistan would begin this month. Hughes worries that “though the initial phase of the drawdown appears limited, minimizing the tactical and operational impact on the ground in the immediate future, the United States and its allies are now beginning the inevitable process of removing their forces from Afghanistan. This will entail the risk of greater Taliban battlefield successes.”

Please pray for wisdom for the 50-nation coalition and the Afghan authorities and that the Taliban will become disillusioned with the conflict, giving up their misguided struggle to take over the nation so that peace and healing can come to this austere and isolated area of the world.
